We know that teachers are always on the look out
for new ways to engage their students, but that some may need a bit
of a confidence boost when it comes to using IT in the classroom.
Whether you're new to Apple or want to fine-tune your knowledge of
particular software or devices, Apple Professional Development
(APD) training can help.
Bespoke programmes are available for teachers at primary,
secondary, FE and HE levels, as well as training for school leaders
and decision-makers. These workshop-style courses have been written
by British teachers for British teachers, so you can be confident
that what you'll learn will come in useful in the classroom.
What is Apple Professional Development Training?
APD training courses are hands-on, practical workshops (with a
maximum of 16 participants per session) that let you get to grips
with Apple software and devices. As well as being written by
teachers, many of the course leaders are also former teachers, and
will guide you through how to integrate Apple products into your
curriculum, assessment strategies and ways to create a richer
learning and teaching experience.
These workshops are carried out at your school or college over one
or two days and can be tailored to suit you and your colleagues'
skill level with Apple computers and software.
What will you learn?
Here are the workshops we currently offer:
iLife: Fostering creativity in the
classroom
Get to grips with iLife applications (iPhoto, GarageBand, iMovie,
iDVD and iWeb) and learn how to use them to build creative learning
experiences, including photo slideshows, podcasts, storybooks and
videos.
iWork: Improving critical thinking in the
classroom
Learn how to teach with iWork applications (Pages, Numbers and
Keynote) by using them to create a multimedia presentation,
brochure and newsletter. This course also runs through a data
collection and analysis project.
Exploring the benefits of mobile learning
Find out how mobile devices like iPad can be used to enhance
teaching and learning. You'll be guided through the process of
creating content, transferring it between devices and displaying it
to the class. We'll also show you how to manage mobile learning
environments and personalise learning with relevant apps and iTunes
U.
Enhancing collaboration and sharing in the
classroom
Learn how Apple tools and platforms can be used to develop and
manage content, and to collaborate and communicate more effectively
using Apple interactive tools.
Challenge-based learning
Explore how collaborative learning tools can help students to
solve real-world problems and design an experience that challenges
them to find an innovative solution to a contemporary issue.
Digital Storytelling
Learn how to write your own scripts and to storyboard, edit and
produce an original short film using iMovie and content from iPhoto
and iTunes. You can then consider ways in which digital media can
be used to encourage individual expression while teaching students
to use the software.
Podcasting
Learn the fundamentals of podcasting by creating your own -
through recording, editing and publishing to iTunes. Discuss the
role of these tools in education and how they can be used for
teaching, learning and professional development.
Vision and planning for school leaders
Discover how Apple technologies can help your school achieve its
goals, and impact on teaching and learning. Explore survey tools
that help involve shareholders, shape a plan for implementing
technology changes and take away presentation tools for use in your
school or Local Authority.
Who delivers the training?
APD Training is both written and carried out by teachers who
have been selected and approved by Apple as capable of providing
the highest level of training to British schools. As Apple's
biggest UK reseller, we've been providing schools with Apple
training sessions for quite a while and have now secured the
services of Neil Emery, one of only nine Apple Education Mentors in
the UK to offer APD. Neil has several years of experience teaching
these courses at NTI Birmingham (New Technology Institute) - one of
Europe's most successful Apple Certified Training Centres - and can
tailor one to your school's exact needs.
