Editing Made Easy with iMovie

Our quick and easy guide to editing in iMovie

imovie

  • Connect the camera to your Mac, open iMovie and ‘Import’ to add the footage to the library.
  • Select the clips you want to use and drag them onto your project timeline. To determine how much of the clip you want to use, click and drag the edges of the yellow box to incorporate more or less footage.
  • Insert some transitions to your cuts by clicking the envelope button; choose your transition and place it on your timeline between the clips you want to merge.
  • Record a voiceover (in this case, the poem) by clicking the voiceover button and speaking into a built-in or USB attached microphone.
  • Add titles and credits to your movie by clicking on the T button. Choose a style, drag it onto the timeline and insert your own text.
  • Export your movie by clicking ‘Share’ on the iMovie toolbar and choose a format to suit your medium e.g. TV, internet or iPhone.

Top tip: Plan your film with a storyboard – this will help you decide what to shoot and will make editing easier.
