Are you ready to say goodbye to Firewire?...
On a cool Californian afternoon back in October, Apple
unveiled its shiny new range of re-vamped Macbooks. Crafted from a single block
of Aluminium, the new machines boasted powerful graphics, faster speeds and a
new glass, LED backlit displays which use up to 30% less energy than the
previous range. However, behind all the power and the aluminium, Apple have
taken a bold step and removed the much loved Firewire port completely, leaving
just two USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet socket.
The high speed port, favoured for transferring large
data such as Video and raw audio, is still used by a whole range of camcorders
and audio hardware, as well as a variety of other external devices. So surely
you are not going to want to replace all of these just to suit your new
Aluminium Macbook…are you?
Well, luckily, you don’t have to! Because the classic
White Macbook is still hanging in there, refusing to be rejected from the
Macbook family by it’s powerful, new younger brother, and even better, it has
now come down in price! The high powered, top end Macbook is now available at
an education rate of £615 (exVAT). This model is packing in a Core2Duo 2.4Ghz
processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB Hard drive, CD/DVD writer, and of course, the all
important Firewire port.
